Lesson Plan for Thursday, April 30th
Happy last day of April friends! Greetings! Remember, that we are Zooming this morning at 11:00. Bring a paper, marker or pencil to draw with, and some crayons or markers to color in your butterfly. Have something ready to share when it is your turn! Hope to see you there! To find out more about bees, go to Scholastic/lfo, and enter our class password, “winzoo9.” Religion: Let’s start with “The Lord’s Prayer.” Jesus, thank you for teaching us how to pray. Ask your child the following questions: 1. To whom do you talk to when you are happy? 2. To whom do you talk to when you are sad or afraid? 3. To whom do you talk to when you are worried? Direct your student to make the booklet. Say: This booklet will help you to pray. Fold and read the booklet and ask your son/daughter which scene is his/her favorite. Reading: Open the workbook to page 28-29. Have your kinder read Ettabetta’s speech balloon aloud. Explain that “Lip Flips” are tongue twisters that Ettabetta made up. Remind your child that tongue twisters are funny sentences or phrases that are difficult to say quickly. Point out the other speech balloons and explain that the Superkids are trying to say Ettabetta’s Lip Flips. Have your son/daughter read each Superkid’s speech balloon. Now, point out the pink word on page 28 and explain that it is “said,” a new memory word. Point out the comma and quotation marks and explain that these marks are used with the word “said” to show that someone is talking. Follow the directions at the bottom of page 28 to complete pages 28 and 29. Writing: (You may have until Sunday to complete this story.) H: My hope for this year is ____________________________________________________. Math: “Race to $1.00” For this partner game, players will need a set of dimes and pennies, a dice, (if you don’t have one you can make one out of any cube) and the mat provided. Player 1 tosses the die and puts the same amount of pennies in the ones column on his/her place value mat. Player 2 takes a turn and does the same. When players have 10 pennies, they trade them in for a dime in the tens column. Players continue to take turns until one player has 10 dimes. The first player to make a dollar with dimes is the winner! Just for fun: 1. Take a walk with someone you love. 2. Write your own story about a battle between two insects. 3. Pick out a book, and have your parent read it to you. 4. Make a list of items in your house that are taller than you. Lesson Plan for Wednesday, April 29th
Today’s video shows a variety of art projects that your child could to, but these projects are not required. Later this morning I will be sending out an invitation for our Zoom meeting. It will take place on Thursday at 11:00. We will be doing a directed drawing of a butterfly, so have your paper, pencil or markers ready!! Join us if you can! Religion: “Jesus showed us how to pray,” page 203. Read aloud the “We Believe” statement and text on page 203. Ask: Do you remember the name of the holy place that Jesus went to pray? (the Temple) Explain that Jesus wants us to pray too. Discuss with your student the things that are happening in each of the four scenes. Read the activity directions aloud and have your child put a checkmark next to the pictures that show where they pray with others. Suggest a prayer that might be said in each situation. Turn over the page to 204. “The Lord’s Prayer,” has been our prayer for the month of April. Pray this prayer with your child and have him/her color in the title. Reading: Have your child pretend to jump rope if you say a word that begins with the letter J: jelly, kite, just, joke, jeep, jingle, lucky, jewelry. Now, say each of the following words and give a context sentence. Have your student write the letter “j” if the word begins with J, or write the letters “qu” if the word begins with qu: jet, queen, quilt, jacket, jungle, quack, juice, quickly, joyful. Next turn to page 25 in the Superkids book. Tell your son/daughter that this page shows a tray full of things that EttaBetta set up for a game. (If you have extra time, which you probably do NOT, it’s fun to put some household items on a tray, give your child one minute to look at the items, and then cover the tray with a cloth. See how many items your student can recall.) Help your son/daughter name the things on the tray and then circle the items that begin with the “j” sound. Now, turn over to page 26 and look at the word list on the left side of the page. Have your kinder read each word and circle it if it was on Ettabetta’s tray. We don’t have the CD to listen to, so just have your student fill in any vowel letter that will make a word to complete page 26. Finally, follow the directions at the bottom of page 27 and finish the page. Writing: Finish your “G” story if you have not, we will move on to letter “H” tomorrow. Math: Money!!!! Children usually enjoy learning the names and value of coins! We are just introducing this, so don’t worry if your child does not master this. Raid your change stash and find about 10 pennies, 6 nickels, 3 dimes, and 1 quarter to have on hand to use during our lessons for the next few days. Look at each type of coin and discuss who and what is on the front and back of each. Then talk about the value of each coin. Here are some simple poems to use if needed: 1. Penny, penny, easily spent. Copper brown, worth one cent. 2. Nickel, nickel, thick and fat. You’re worth 5 cents. I know that. 3. Dime, dime, silver and thin. I remember you’re worth ten. 4. Quarter, quarter, big and bold. You’re worth 25 I am told. After you have talked about the coins, have your student cut out and sort the coins on the “Identifying coins/money” page. Just for fun: 1. Build the tallest tower you can without it falling. 2. Build something out of Legos in just 1 minute. 3. Set up a store in your house and put price tags on the things that are for sale. 4.Read a book about an animal. Illustrate or write facts about the animal to teach others. Religion: Let’s begin by praying the, “Our Father,” today. The next 2 pages in our packet have to do with learning how to make “The Sign of the Cross” correctly. We have already worked on this quite a bit at school, so just check your son/daughter’s “Sign of the Cross” and give correction as needed. We are going to move on to Chapter 23, page 201, “We Pray as Jesus Did.” Read aloud the “We Gather” statement and help your child understand that sometimes Jesus prayed alone and sometimes he prayed with other people. Discuss the questions at the bottom of the page. Now, turn over to page 202 and read aloud the “We Believe” statement. Explain that prayer is the way we talk to and listen to God. Invite your son/daughter to talk about his/her favorite times and places to pray. Read the activity directions aloud and have your student draw a picture of himself/herself at prayer. Reading: Listen to the letter J song on “Superkids Online Fun.” It is Ettabetta’s turn to be the Supernoodle, and you know how she likes to play puzzles and games. Follow the directions at the bottom of pages 22, 23 and 24 in the Superkid book, and complete those pages. Math: We are going to finish up our exploration of time today. Have your student write the following times on the flower clocks, “Flo’s Flowers.” Your son/daughter will write the time that you dictate at the top of each box, and then draw the hour and minute hands on the clock below. 1. 7:30, 2. 10:00, 3. 12:00, 4. 1:30, 5.3:30, 6. 6:00, 7. 8:30, 8. 9:00. Writing: The “ABC’S of Me,” letter G: “I think _____________ is really gross because _________________________________. (We can have 2 days to complete this if needed.) Just for fun: 1. Call or facetime a grandparent or friend and read them a story. 2. Watch or read “The Best Nest” by P.D. Eastman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXr67lj1bmc Talk about what would make a good nest for a bird. Gather materials and make your nest. You can use items from nature, your recycling bin or both. Test your nest’s strength by putting in a hard boiled egg, wooden egg or plastic egg. 3. Make a tic-tac-toe board and write a Superkid “J” word in each box. (The J word list is on the back of the K-Qu wordlist.) Now, find someone to play with. If you read the word correctly, put a marker on top of it. 3 in a row will win!!!! 4. Disguise a stuffed animal. Use construction paper, scissors and tape to turn a teddy bear into a bird, a doll into a rabbit, etc.
