Lesson Plan for Wednesday, April 29th
Today’s video shows a variety of art projects that your child could to, but these projects are not required. Later this morning I will be sending out an invitation for our Zoom meeting. It will take place on Thursday at 11:00. We will be doing a directed drawing of a butterfly, so have your paper, pencil or markers ready!! Join us if you can!
Religion: “Jesus showed us how to pray,” page 203. Read aloud the “We Believe” statement and text on page 203. Ask: Do you remember the name of the holy place that Jesus went to pray? (the Temple) Explain that Jesus wants us to pray too. Discuss with your student the things that are happening in each of the four scenes. Read the activity directions aloud and have your child put a checkmark next to the pictures that show where they pray with others. Suggest a prayer that might be said in each situation. Turn over the page to 204. “The Lord’s Prayer,” has been our prayer for the month of April. Pray this prayer with your child and have him/her color in the title.
Reading: Have your child pretend to jump rope if you say a word that begins with the letter J: jelly, kite, just, joke, jeep, jingle, lucky, jewelry. Now, say each of the following words and give a context sentence. Have your student write the letter “j” if the word begins with J, or write the letters “qu” if the word begins with qu: jet, queen, quilt, jacket, jungle, quack, juice, quickly, joyful. Next turn to page 25 in the Superkids book. Tell your son/daughter that this page shows a tray full of things that EttaBetta set up for a game. (If you have extra time, which you probably do NOT, it’s fun to put some household items on a tray, give your child one minute to look at the items, and then cover the tray with a cloth. See how many items your student can recall.) Help your son/daughter name the things on the tray and then circle the items that begin with the “j” sound. Now, turn over to page 26 and look at the word list on the left side of the page. Have your kinder read each word and circle it if it was on Ettabetta’s tray. We don’t have the CD to listen to, so just have your student fill in any vowel letter that will make a word to complete page 26. Finally, follow the directions at the bottom of page 27 and finish the page.
Writing: Finish your “G” story if you have not, we will move on to letter “H” tomorrow.
Math: Money!!!! Children usually enjoy learning the names and value of coins! We are just introducing this, so don’t worry if your child does not master this. Raid your change stash and find about 10 pennies, 6 nickels, 3 dimes, and 1 quarter to have on hand to use during our lessons for the next few days. Look at each type of coin and discuss who and what is on the front and back of each. Then talk about the value of each coin. Here are some simple poems to use if needed: 1. Penny, penny, easily spent. Copper brown, worth one cent. 2. Nickel, nickel, thick and fat. You’re worth 5 cents. I know that. 3. Dime, dime, silver and thin. I remember you’re worth ten. 4. Quarter, quarter, big and bold. You’re worth 25 I am told. After you have talked about the coins, have your student cut out and sort the coins on the “Identifying coins/money” page.
Just for fun: 1. Build the tallest tower you can without it falling. 2. Build something out of Legos in just 1 minute. 3. Set up a store in your house and put price tags on the things that are for sale. 4.Read a book about an animal. Illustrate or write facts about the animal to teach others.
