- Religion: Let’s begin by praying the, “Our Father.” Now ask your child to tell you what a juggler is. Explain if necessary. (If you can juggle, by all means show your skills!) Next make the booklet. Tell your kinder that the booklet is about one of God’s special friends, Saint John Bosco. Read the pages and discuss the pictures. Ask “What kind of a person was Saint John Bosco?” Now we will play a game using your son/daughter’s name. Have your child write his/her name on a piece of paper, and think of a way to love God that begins with each letter of the name. For instance, take the name Bob… B-be good, O-obey your parents, B-believe in yourself, etc. Give help as needed. Don’t forget to take out your, “Loving words and Loving actions,” strips today.
- Reading: Dictate the following 2 sentences to your student, and have him/her do his/her best writing for each one: 1. The vet has a van. 2. The van is fast. Go back and correct as needed. Next, have your student reread “The Pet Hospital,” in the workbook if you think more practice would be helpful. Now follow the directions at the bottom of pages 22 and 23 in the workbook and have your child complete the pages. Lastly, we are going to begin writing a, “How to,” story. Think of something that you would like to teach someone else to do. For example, your title might be, “How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich, ” or, “How to Tie Your Shoe.” Some important words to include might be: first, next and last. You can take until Friday to finish this story if you need to. Make sure to include a picture.
- Math: When we are at school, we have calendar time every day. There are so many math AND literacy skills that can be taught in this way. For math today, let’s focus on the April calendar. But FIRST, we will listen to our BrainPOP Jr video on calendar and dates. 1.Google, “BrainPOP Jr.” 2. Put the title, “Calendar and Dates,” in the BrainPOP search 3. Log in: Username: springfield_immaculate password: brainpop. Watch the video, and then draw out a calendar on any size paper, poster board, or just download a blank one. Now ask your child some questions like: “What month is it? Can you write the word April on our calendar? What month of the year is April? How many months are in a year, etc.” Provide questions that would be appropriate for your child’s understanding of the calendar. “What day of the week is it? What year is it, etc.” Now you have a choice. You can have your child write the number on the correct space of the calendar each day, or you can have your student fill in all the numbers for April today. Be sure to note the important or special days that are coming up, like Holy Week, Easter, Earth Day, family birthdays, etc. Now, you can refer to your calendar every day!
