Good morning, everyone! I hope that everyone is staying well and had a great weekend! Let’s get going!!
- Religion: I did not assign page 165-166, but I noticed some families completed it, and that’s absolutely fine. If your child wants to do this page feel free to have him/her complete it or not, but we are going to move on to Chapter 19 today: “Jesus Wants Us to Love.” Let’s start with a spontaneous prayer, “Dear Lord, Thank you for all the helpers during this difficult time, (List them with your child….healthcare workers…..grocery store employees….truck drivers…..parents……etc. ) Amen! Read page 167, and have your student answer the question. On page 168, read the “We believe,” statement aloud. Stress that we do not always have to say the words, “I love you,” to tell someone about our love. Read the words in the speech balloons and invite your child to color the words. Point out that these are all ways to say, “I love you.” Activity: Find 2 envelopes and label the first: “Loving words,” and the second, “Loving actions.” Ask your child to help you think of loving words for the first envelope like: please, thank you, etc. Write out or have him/her write out several loving words and place them in the first envelope. Then ask for examples of loving actions like: picking up my toys, or doing my homeschool work without complaining, playing nicely with my sibling, etc. Write those out and place them in the second envelope. Each day this week pull one strip from each envelope and encourage your child to share these words and actions throughout the day.
- Reading: Begin by having your student read the words on the “V” word list aloud for you. Give him/her help where needed. You can read through this list every day until your kinder becomes comfortable with the words. Remember that all children are not quite ready to read in kindergarten. Continue to practice every day, but if the child is getting upset or emotional, its OK to back off and pick it back up the next day. Keep perspective that learning is an ongoing process!
- Math: I apologize for the math paper mix up last Thursday! When I tore the pages out of the books, I was in such a hurry, I guess I did not get that right!! We will work around this for a couple of days and start back with pages again when we get to page 705. If you have pages that start before page 705, completing them will be optional. Today we are going to do a little science with our math. Discuss with your student that the planets are shaped like spheres, and then have your kinder watch this Brainpop Jr video: Solar System. To do this, google Brainpop Jr and click on it. Login: (user name: springfield_immaculate, Password: brainpop.) This info is also on my class page under the Resources tab. Type in, “Solar System” in the search space and watch the video. Under the video, there are all kinds of options if you want them, quizzes, games, etc. Now, your child’s assignment is to construct some type of solar system. You may have until Thursday to finish and photograph this. You could use sphere shaped objects like balls, fruits, globes, playdoh spheres etc. and lay out a solar system on the floor. Or you could make a mobile, a poster or drawing, etc. I can hardly wait to see what you come up with! I have a recipe for edible planets, if you are interested. I will include it below.
